The customer service was rude. We only used the product few times. The said it is out of 90 days warranty and I have to take it to the local repair shop. After a while the DVD screen flashes and then goes dark.
I have bought this player back in March for my 3 y.o. I told then that I am not going to buy anything else from them they did not care. Which will cost me the same money as a player. I was satisfied with it at first.
I have called the COBY and ask then to repair it. It fits nice in the car. The DVD will spin the disc for the a minute or two and then display "Wrong Disc" message.
We were ALL excited it had two sets of headphones. The screen just froze and nothing would work.
We tried disc after disc and it never worked again. We changed DVDs and it gave an error message of "Wrong disc".
I bought this to replace the DVD player my kids use in the car. Then they went to watch another movie and it stopped playing about 10 minutes into the movie.
I was going to get the same player again, b/c I really liked it, but upone further reflection, I think I won't buy this one again. They watched a movie at home and it worked great.
They used it in the car to watch one movie and it worked fine.
Please, DO NOT BUY ANYTHING COBY. Also, a repair shop stated that parts are virtually unavailable for Coby products. She also was told that she would be better off just to purchase another one.
It quit after 6 months. Coby doesn't stand behind their warranty. I bought this unit for my grandaughter.
She called their customer service with the warranty in hand, and was told that the warranty they had in their computer files was totally different from the one she received with the unit. TOTAL JUNK She is 29 years old, so it was not because of abuse to the player.
It had a one year warranty on parts, but, guess what.
Plenty of extras are in the box: 2 sets of headphones, car charger, AC charger, video cable, mounting straps for a headrest (which I haven't tried yet), remote with batteries, and the player battery. I purchased these with the 2 year warranty because I do anticipate they will break within the next 2 years and I'll want my money back when they do. The picture and sound are average or perhaps slightly above average.
The user manual inside the box does not indicate that it should be supported, although the outside of the box is explicit that they are supported. Auto-play VCDs play correctly, but I was unable to select a title inside a menu. The box has a list of supported formats which includes DVD+-R and DVD+-RW, but I have two of these Coby 7050's and neither one will play a recorded DVD.
I've only had the players for 1 week, but they seem solid and both work fine. I'd rate this a good investment, but not if you need to play recorded DVD's. I have tried 5 discs and they all come up with "Wrong Disc" errors.
The player does support Video CD's on a CD-R, though I have problems with VCD's with menus.
I told them that I already did that. We recieved this product as a Christmas present this past year. I can't say that I was disappointed with the performance for the first 3 months. DO NOT BUY FROM COBY.
I am very disappointed that COBY doesn't stand behind their products better than this. I will go out and purchase a name brand product that will stand behind their products. My recommendation is to do the same. How ironic that this product starting acting up on the 4th month of use. They only have a 90 day warranty.
We bought a DVD lens cleaner which seemed to help but continued getting the error about once a week. I asked if they would reimburse me for the costs to get it fixed and she said no. It was a great gift because we have a 1 year old and it pacifies her while we drive around town and take trips. They recommended that I take it to Circuit City and they could fix it.
I called COBY and they recommended the disk cleaning. About the 4th month we started receiving a "Wrong Disc" error. Last week while we were vacationing, we got the wrong disk error with no recovery.
